Evolution of Ko Jya – Kojiba – Co Sinus – Cosine or Cos

While I was reading the Ganita Nirnayam, the Bible of all Keral Ganiths, I could not fully understand , as it was using tough Mal and Sanskrit words,

Words like Chyuti Samskaram, Parama Mandkarnam, Laghu Mandakarnam, Natasam and Digamsam bamboozled me.

There was a 10 page mathematical table called Sparsha Jyakkal.

Jya meant 5 degrees of a Circle or Ellipse and the Zodiac was made up of 72*5 = 360 Jyas.

In this Math Table, math value for every 5 degree was given. I thought if I create a data file out of it, I will have to sit for a Week, doing hard work.

I tested for Sine, Cos, bu the Table did not budge. But it took when I put Tan. Tan is Sparsna Jyakkal !
