IN this movie, the villainous Emperor, Commodus, gets his father killed and destroys family of Maximus, the Military Commander (being jealous of Maximum' martial prowess). Maximus destroys those who try to execute him and then escapes to another country, only to come back as Gladiator !
In the last scene, Emperor recognises Maximus and calls him for a duel. He sticks
a knife on Maximus's back. Blood began oozing.
Maximus overcomes Commodus in the duel. Commodus sword was gone, he asks the Commander to give him a sword. Commander, switches sides and sides with Maximus and tells his garrison not to give him a sword.
Maximum kills the Emperor, gives instructions to the Army and falls back dead !
Many say this story has no historicity, as Commodus was mot a villain !
