Narayana Sooktam or Hymn to Eternal Being 

                          


He who is the Base of all
He is called Narayana
Naranaam Ayanam Yasmat
Tasmat Narayana Srmitah !


Universe is Eternal Being
Indestructible, Goal Supreme
With forms manifold
Omniscient, omnipresent
The Source Eternal of  Bliss
And the true Resplendent One !

Sahasraa sersham devam viswaasham viswaasambhuvam
Viswam naaraayanam devamaksharam pramam padam

Universe is verily He
With Him as the substratum
Who transcends all
The Infinite, destroying sins !

Viswataah paramam nityam viswam naaraayanam hariim
Viswaamevedam purushaastadvisvampajeevati

He who protects the Universe
Lord of all individual souls,
The Everlasting, Imperishable
Auspicious and the Goal Supreme
Great Object worthy of Knowledge
And the never failing Sanctuary !

Patim viswasyatmeswaram saswatam sivamachyutam
Naaraayanam mahaajneyam viswaatmanam paraayanam

This Being is the sole Absolute
Absolute Reality is Narayana
Glorious Light is Narayana
Infinite Self is Narayana
Meditator great is He
Meditation supreme is also He !

Naaraayanaa paro jyotiratma naaraayanaa paraah
Naaraayanaa param brahmaa tattwam naaraayanaah paraah
Naaraayanaa paro dhyaatah dhyaanam naaraayanah paraah


Whatever exists
Whatever is seen
Whatever is heard
Is this Being Absolute !
Pervading all, He stands
Omnipresent to the core !

Yachca kinchit jagat sarvam drshyate srooyatepi va
Antar bahisca tatsvaram vyapya naaraayanaah sthitah


Indestructible, the All Knower
He resides in the Heart
Cause of Bliss eternal
The Goal supreme of Life
Like the inverted lotus
Manifests He in the Heart

Anantamavyayam kavim samudrentam viswaa sambhuvam
Padma kosaa praateeksam hrdayam capyadho mukham


Divinity shines in the Heart
Below Adam's apple
And above navel
In the Sky of Consciousness, Chit Akasha,
Of Heart, Sarvasya cha Aham Hridi !
He shines like thousand Suns
Like wearing garlands of fire !

Adho nishtya vitastyante nabhyaamupari tishtati
Jwaalamalaa kulaam bhaati vishwasyayatanam mahat


Surrounded on all sides
By nerve currents
Heart Lotus is suspended
As if inverted !
The substratum of All
Exists in that subtle Space !

Santaatam silaabhistu lambaatyaa kosaannibham
Tasyante sushiram sookshman tasmin sarvam pratishtam
