Anakotta, the Elephant Sanctuary At Guruvayur By Govind Kumar
The Elephant Sanctuary at Guruvayur hosts 62 trained elephants, most of them
given by devotees to the Lord. This sanctuary is known as Punathur Kota or Ana
Kota and is one of the largest elephant sanctuaries in the world. The visiting
hours are from 0930 to 1730.
This is a famous tourist spot, promoted by Kerala Tourism. When a client came from South Africa to buy my software, I took him to this place and he said it is simply gorgeous !
The Govt just did a 1.5
crore renovation of this structure, which was the palace of a local
ruler.
Gaja Puja or Worship of Elephants is done here, as an offering to Lord Ganesh.
Elephant Feeding is also done here.
Padmanabhan is the most senior elephant of this group. We find that most tourists who come here visit this famous Sanctuary.
