Chavakkad Beach, 5 kms from Guruvayur and lying on the West Coast of India, kissing the Arabian Sea, is one of the most beautiful sights in the world. It is a coconut bordered sea-shore.

The shadow of coconut lagoons and the tantalising atmosphere makes Chavakkad Beach a great tourist spot. The Chavakkad Estuary or Azhimugham is a superb place to behold, where the Chettuva River confluences with the Arabian Sea !

The Azhimukham is not so well developed. When I first went there, I was struck by the beauty of the place. On the Western side, we have the Arabian Sea and on the Eastern side, we have the Chettuva or Chavakkad River. The Sea merges with the River and this Estuary is a great sight to see. On the Eastern side, we can see the Engandiyur Fishing Harbor. The Chettuva River, flowing quietly, merges into the fierce Arabian Sea. 

Now there is a one crore development project for Chavakkad Beach. A park is being built and it will be commissioned within months.

Parallel to the Beach, there is a road which takes you to the Estuary and it is almost 8 kms long.

From Guruvayur Railway Station, you can go to Chavakkad Beach. From Ernakulam, from Egmore and from Trichur, there are trains to Guruvayur. Cochin International Airport is just 80 kms from Chavakkad and Calicut Airport is just 104 kms away. In between Guruvayur and Calicut, KSRTC buses are common and they go via Chavakkad.
