Ashtapadi IX - Tava Virahe Vanamali - Ode to the Lord
The companion of Radha
Was distraught
The Lord tells her
That He would wait
In the cottage
Tells her to bring
Radha there
The confidante
Goes to Radha
And tells her
Like this !
tava virahE vanamAli - pantuvarALi - roopaka
SlOkamahamiha nivasAmi yAhi rAdhAm
anunaya madvachanEna chAnayEdhAha
iti madhuripuNA sakhee niyuktA
svayamida mEtya punarjagAda rAdhAm ||
vahati malaya sameerE madana mupanidhAya
sphuTati kusuma nikarE virahi hrudaya daLanya
tava virahE vanamAlee sakhee seedati rAdhE||tava virahE ||
My beloved Radha
Cool winds helping Cupid
Flowers are blooming
Lover's hearts are torn asunder
By beauteous Nature !
The Lord of all
Is suffering from separation pangs !
dahati SiSira mayookhE maraNa manukarOti
patati madana viSikhE vilapati vikala tarOti||tava virahE ||
Even ravishing moonlight
Pains the loving Lord !
To Him death seems better
Than separation from Prakriti
Without His Prakriti
How can Purusha exist ?
dhvanati madhupa samoohE SravaNa mapi dahati
manasi chalita virahE niSi niSi ruja mupayati||tava virahE||
He closes His ears
Unable to bear
Buzzing sound of bees
Sleeps nights devastate Him
Because of separation from you.
vasati vipina vitAnE tyajati lalita dhAma
luThati dharaNi SayanE bahu vilapati tava nAma||tava virahE||
Leaving His great abode
He is roaming in forest
Uneasily He lies
On the floor restless
He chants thy name
Repeatedly !
raNati pika samavAyE prati diSa manuyAti
hasati manuja nichayE viraha mapalapati nEti|| tava virahE||
There He follows
Cooing cuckoos !
People are laughing
At his behavious eccentric !
His suffering He hides
In his glorious heart !
sphurati kalarava rAvE smarati maNitamEva
tava ratisukha vibhavE gaNayati suguNa mateeva||tava virahE||
The fluttering noise of doves
Attract His attention
The love gestures
Of these doves
He imagines !
He recollects the grandeur
Of enjoying company with you.
tvadabhidha Subhada mAsam vadati nari SruNOti
tamapi japati sarasam yuvatishu naratimupaiti||tava virahE||
He chants your name only
When one utters Vaisakha
He is not interested
In other females !
bhaNati kavi jayadEvE viraha vilasitEna
manasi rabhasa vibhavE hari rudayatu sukrutEna||tava virahE|| |
The poet Jayadeva
Describes the behaviour
Eccentric of the Lord
Due to separation
From His Prakriti
Symbolised as Radha
Let the splendour
Of the love divine
Of this Holy Couple
Purusha and Prakriti
Evoke happiness supreme
In the hearts of readers !
