ramatE yamunA pulina - Ode to the Lord
Look and behold
The Moon celestial
As beauteous as Krishna
Assuaging my suffering
But he is friend of enemy
Enemy called Cupid
He is causing pain
Vengefully, over me !
ramatE yamunA pulina - sAvEri - chApu

There He is kissing
A beauteous maid
There He puts
The sandalmark
On her face lovely !
The mark looks like deer
Over ravishing Moon !
Gopis are delighted
On the sands of Yamuna !
ghana chaya ruchirE rachayati chikurE taraLita taruNAnanE
kuruvaka kusumam chapalA sushamam ratipati mruga kAnanE||ramatE||
With kuruvak flowers
He decorates a Gopika's hair
It looks like deer
In a forest dark !
ghaTayati sughanE kuchayuga gaganE mruga mada ruchi bhushitE
maNivara mamalam tAraka paTalam nakha pada SaSi bhushitE||ramatE ||
Beautiful figures He draws
With Kasturi on breasts
Like garlands of stars
Necklaces on her bosom
Are shinining
Like gem studded necklaces !

Like tender lotus stems
Are the Gopi's arms
Krishna decorates
Her with bracelets
Studded with emerald
Beautifying her more !

maNimaya rasanam tOraNa hasanam vikirati kruta vAsanE||ramatE||
The Lord decorates
Her lovely waist
With gem studded chains
Like Cupid's golden throne
Are her loins !
.

bahirapi varaNam yAvaka bharaNam janayati hrudi yOjitE||ramatE ||
His chest functions as abode
For the Goddess of Prosperity !
His chest turned red
Because of her red feet !
As if red rubies
Are on His chest divine !
ramayati sudruSam kAmapi subhruSam khala haladhara sOdarE
kimapaha mavaSam chiramiha virasam pada sakhi viTa sOdarE||ramatE ||
There He enjoys
Company of some maid
Can you tell me why
Why should I wait
In vain for Him
In this cottage ?
iha rasa bharaNE kruta hari guNanE madhuripu pada sEvakE
kaliyuga charitam navasatu duritam kavi nrupa jayadEvakE||ramatE ||
The king of poets
The poet Jayadeva
Sings these deeds lovely
Of the handsome Lord !
Concentrating, meditating
On His Lotus Feet !
Let none be affected
By the sins of Kali Yuga
