Shri Ardhanarishwara Stotram



The Cosmic Union of Purusha and Prakriti brought forth the Universe. Here is
a  Poem extolling them, symbolised as Shiva and Parvathy !

The concept of Ardha Nareeswara symbolises the Inseparability of Purusha and Prakriti.

Both feminine and masculine properties exist in all humans.

In Mysticism, Intuition is female and Intellect is male
Intuition is female and Reason is male !

Champeya gowrardha sareerakayai,
Karpoora gourardha sareerakaya,
Dhamillakayai cha jatadaraya,
Nama Shivayai cha namashivaya.


Salutations to both Purusha and Prakriti
To Her  whose body is of golden hue
To Him whose body resembles burning camphor
To Her whose hair is lovely
And to Him whose matted locks shine !

Kasthurika kumkuma charchithayai,
Chitharaja puncha vicharchithayai,
Kruthasmarayai vikrutha smaraya,
Nama Shivayai cha namashivaya

To Her, whose body  is smeared with saffron and musk
To Him, whose body is smeared with ashes
To Her , whose beauty radiates Love
And to Him who destroyed the God of Lust.

Jhanath kvanath kankana noopurayai,
Padabja Rajat phani noopuraya,
Hemangadhayai bhujagangadhaya,
Nama Shivayai cha namashivaya.

To Her, whose anklets tinkle
To Him, whose ankle is snake
To Her, whose shines with them ( anklets )
And to Him, who has snakes as anklets !

Visala nilothphala lochanayai,
Vikasi pangeruha lochanaya,
Samekshanayai vishamekshanaya,
Nama Shivayai cha namashivaya.

To Her, whose eyes resemble blue lotus
To Him, whose eyes are like a fully opened lotus
To Her who has even number of eyes
And to Him who has odd number !

Mandhara mala kalithalakayai,
Kapalamalankitha kandharaya,
Divyambarayai cha Digambaraya,
Nama Shivayai cha namashivaya.

To Her whose hair incorporates flowers divine
To Him, who wears skulls garland
To Her who dresses in many silks
And to Him, who symbolises eight directions

Ambhodara syamala kunthalayai,
Thadithprabha thamra jatadharaya,
Nireeswarayai nikhileeswaraya,
Nama Shivayai cha namashivaya.

To Her, whose black hair is like swollen cloud
To Him whose matted hair resembles copper
To Him who is the Deity of the mountains
And to Him, who is Universal Lord !

Prapancha srushtyun muka lasyakayai,
Samastha samharaka thandavaya,
Jagat jananyai Jagatheka pithre,
Nama Shivayai cha namashivaya.

To Her, whose Dance creates cosmos
To Him, the Destroyer
To Her, who is Mother Divine
And to Him, who is Father Divine !

Pradeeptha rathnojjwala kundalaayai,
Sphuran mahapannaga bhooshanayai,
Shivanvithaayai cha Shivanvithaya,
Nama Shivayai cha namashivaya.

To Her, adorned with glittering earrings
To Him, adorned with serpents
To Her, merged as She is with Shiva
And to Him, who is divinely merged with Her.

Ethath pateth astaka mistatham yo,
Bhakthyaa sa maanyo bhuvi deerghajeevi,
Praapnothi saubhagyam ananthakaalam,
Bhooyaath sadha thasya samastha sidhdhi

He  who chants about this dual combination
With Love Divine, will be blessed
With many a blessing
With Bhukti & Mukti !
